Some "Thawing" in Oxnard Retail Development but Many Residents Impatient with Empty Buildings at Oxnard's "The Collection"

The Ventura County Star reports that River Park and Oxnard residents remain hopeful that the promised stores at "The Collection" will still be opened.  The buildings were supposed to house an REI, a Whole Foods, and a Century Theater as early as 2009.  The Great Recession put a stop to much of the work.  Target is the only tenant.

For some RiverPark residents, the empty buildings in The Collection have been a sore spot.
Pamela Adams bought one of the first homes in the master-planned community in January 2006 but recently sold the property partly because of the ongoing delay.
"We just got really disappointed," Adams said. Part of the allure when they bought in was the promise of the upscale retail center, she said, adding she even hoped to open a business there.
