Santa Barbara Bankruptcy Attorneys

Consulting with us about a potential bankruptcy filing is worth the drive. The Santa Barbara Division (also called the Northern Division) of our Central District of California is our home court.  We aren't lawyers based in Los Angeles seeking to serve our region by driving up PCH or the 101 to meet you.  We certainly don't conduct our interviews over the phone or Internet. Unless there is an unavoidable conflict in scheduled hearings or court dates, we don't hire appearance attorneys to meet our clients at court.

We understand Santa Barbara well.

Hiring a local bankruptcy attorney at home in the Santa Barbara Division is important. We represent you at every stage of the process and we use our experience to your advantage.

The Santa Barbara Economy

Aerospace and defense companies constitute the core of Santa Barbara's private employers.  Alliant Techsystems, Channel Technologies Group, Citrix Online, FLIR Systems, and Raytheon have significant facilities or offices in the area. Santa Barbara's tourist attractions have vaulted the tourist industry to near the top of private employment.

The public sector is also a large source of employment, perhaps even larger than other local regions. The public sector includes University of California, Santa Barbara, County of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara Unified School District, and the City of Santa Barbara.

Other major employers include Mission Linen Supply, Jordano's, the Santa Barbara Biltmore and San Ysidro Ranch, Westmont College, Mentor, Commission Junction, Fess Parker's Doubletree, Belmond El Encanto and QAD.

Despite what sounds like a robust list of employment opportunities, at the beginning of 2017 Santa Barbara was rated as 2.54 times as expensive a location in which to live as the average United States city. For a single parent raising two children, the "living wage" is calculated at $32.21 per hour. It is tough to make it here. It is even harder when wages and salaries are falling.

Filing figures are taken from public information available through PACER.  We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the Federal filing database, but we believe it is reliable.  We do not mean to imply that the volume of cases filed or handled should serve as the only metric by which one should choose a lawyer.  We do not intend to indicate that the number of cases filed provides a measurement of quality or service.  Figures are for Northern Division of the Central District of California.  Certain law firms have more than one attorney and this may factor into the number of cases filed by that firm.  In addition, the volume of bankruptcy legal work performed by a law firm may include matters that do not result in a "filing."  Such matters may include extensive litigation involvement, creditor representation, appellate work, or other financial distress representation.  Certain attorneys may practice and file in both the Central District of California and other Districts.  An attorney may practice and file in other Divisions in the Central District.  All such data may be useful in reviewing attorney filing data but is not reproduced here.  The chart above is for the calendar year 2015 Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings for which the debtor's address was in Camarillo, California.  Many other factors might influence your decision about whom to hire.  We are confident we will do well on any basis.
